Justice Courts have jurisdiction over small claims civil cases involving amounts of $3,500 or less, misdemeanor criminal cases and any traffic offense that occurs outside a municipality. Justice Court judges may conduct bond hearings and preliminary hearings in felony criminal cases and may issue search warrants.
Justice Court's Civil Jurisdiction is suits to a maximum of $3,500.00
• Criminal Misdemeanor charges with a restitution maximum of $5,000.00
• Traffic Violations issued by the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Walthall County Sheriff's Department
• DUI Violations, 1st and 2nd offense issued by the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Walthall County Sheriff's Departments Department
• Felony Initial Count Appearances to set bond
• Felony Preliminary Hearings to determine whether evidence is sufficient bound defendant over for trial
