Walthall County Barn quilt Trail
What’s a barn quilt?
In a nutshell, barn quilts are typically 4 ft x 4 ft wooden or metal panels that are hand-painted to look like quilt blocks and hung on barns or rustic businesses throughout America. It's part of a grass roots movement to stimulate tourism in rural areas. Washington Parish is part of Louisiana’s Quilt Trail along with most of the other parishes in Southeast Louisiana. Lawrence County and Claiborne County currently represent Southwest Mississippi and if all goes as planned, Walthall County’s first Barn Quilt square will soon be completed with others sure to follow. Each block is unique with a story to tell. Some barn quilts are replicas of a square within a quilt that has been passed down for generations. Others share stories of the family’s heritage or other meaningful images. The goal is to make each design unique and mimic the look of traditional quilt squares to add beauty to the rural landscape. As more Barn Quilts are created and placed on barns, buildings, and businesses throughout Walthall County the hope is that visitors to our community will shop and dine locally as they follow the trail.
