Mississippi Scholars and Mississippi Tech Masters Program

Walthall County first participated in the Mississippi Scholars and Mississippi Tech Masters Program in 2018 and 23 seniors from Tylertown High School and Salem Attendance Center were awarded scholarships. In 2019, Walthall County recognized 20 students at the award ceremony. Seven very special students were granted MS Scholars and Tech Master certificates. Four additional students received MS Scholar Certificates and seven others were granted Tech Master certificates.
The Mississippi Scholars Initiative is an education program managed by the Public Education Forum of Mississippi, which utilizes business leaders to motivate students to complete a rigorous course of study in high school. This program has been very successful in many counties in the state of Mississippi and has played a vital part in students’ education by encouraging them to set goals and achieve them. In order to qualify, students must have a 95% attendance in high school, minimum of 18 on ACT, 2.5 GPA, and no out-of-school suspensions. Donations are greatly appreciated and will help make it possible to reach the goal of providing a scholarship at the awards program to each student that meets the terms required to become a Mississippi Scholar or Tech Master. All donations are sent directly to the university or college to aid the scholarship recipient with expenses.
